Round 1 Newsletter

Round 1 Newsletter

There's only one more day until footy is back!

After another busy pre-season, we are back this week for round one for our senior men, juniors, our netball teams start on Friday April 12th, while our senior women’s team kick off their season on April 20th

With a very big off season so far, here’s an update on what’s happening at the club at the moment.

WIL PARKER & JETT LATCHFORD

The club is so excited to see two of our players, Wil Parker and Jett Latchford head off to Collingwood and Box Hills Hawks in the AFL & VFL.

Wil is the son of our all time games record holder Cameron ‘Smooth’ Parker and a Ringwood player. In 2021 he signed to play Cricket for Victoria and over the past few years has represented Hobart in the Big Bash. He opted this year to return to AFL and has signed for Collingwood. This is fantastic news for Wil and we are sure that he will make a big impact! As he gets his feel for footy again, we’re hopeful to see him run out for Ringwood a few times this year.

Jett has been listed as a player for Box Hill Hawks in the VFL! Since coming through our under 19s program and making his senior debut in 2022, Jett has been one of the hardest working players at our club. He has been committed to making himself better every single day and his hard work has paid off! After a strong pre-season at Box Hill, the club couldn't look past listing Jett for the season ahead.

The good news for us is that we will still see Jett whenever he is not playing for Box Hill, and after a big VFL pre-season he has come back bigger and stronger and ready to tear our division apart when he is given the chance. Jett played in our practice match last weekend and was dominant all over the ground, showing some incredibly exciting times for the year ahead!

Congratulations to both of these young stars, it’s great to see them take on these opportunities.

ROUND 1

We are off to Templestowe this Saturday to take on Templestowe. After two great games against the dockers last season, we expect this to be another great clash! Make sure that you get down and support our seniors and reserves for the first time in 2024.

SENIOR MEN
As supporters we should all be excited by what this group can produce this year.

We have had a fantastic build up to the season which began back in late November.
Over this period, we have continued to improve our game plan, game style and to teach our players to continue to become better players.

The playing group have really responded to taking a more hands on approach by holding everyone accountable and to play and train to a standard that we as a club expect.

We have been able to add more depth to our playing list which can only make us a stronger club.

We have been able to secure Cam Crowley as a new assistant coach. Cam has brought a lot of enthusiasm and football knowledge to the group and the players have enjoyed having a new and fresh voice.

Like all clubs, we will be pushing hard to be apart of finals and hopefully going deep into the finals series.
I look forward to seeing all our supporter’s and sponsors who are so important to our club, enjoying the ride of season 2024.

See you soon at Jubilee.

Go Redbacks!

SENIOR WOMEN
It's been a slow start to pre season for the Senior Women's side having lost some key personnel from the 2023 Season. We've welcomed some new players though who have had a positive impact on the group already, and who are keen to lace up the boots for Ringwood in 2024.

Last week saw us move back to two training sessions a week and gave the players the opportunity to stretch their legs on Jubilee for the first time this year. In the lead up to Round One, we're also joining the Senior Men's side for a training session which will be great for everyone involved.

Our Round One clash against Chirnside Park is on the 20th April at Kimberley Reserve.

Redbacks!

NETBALL
The 2024 winter netball season is nearly here! Ringwood will be fielding 3 teams again this year, that feature many returning players along with many new ones.

The season will begin on the 12th of April with our Red and Black team playing round one. The following week, 19th April the White team will play their round one.

All our players are very keen to get back into the swing of things. It’s been about 3 months since our summer season, which was so much fun, so we are all very excited to take the court again.

We will again have access to the netball facilities within the club, where we will be training each Thursday night with new drills and plays to execute on the court.

We are very hopeful that this season will be better than last years as we have recruited a good number of new players with high skill levels who will help us all be better players and teams.

Fixtures haven’t yet been released due to technical difficulties however they will be available soon to have a look at. Come down and support any one of our teams during their season, it’s going to be a good one so any support will be much appreciated.

Go Redbacks!

JUNIOR REDBACKS
Coming off our 2023 win of EFNL Junior Club of the Year, the Ringwood Junior Football Club are excited to have a range of new teams in laying this 2024 season.

Our under 8s team will be playing junior football for the first time and many of these players have moved up through our Auskick program. The team, lead by Ben their coach, are really looking forward to playing competitive football for the first time.

The under 9s, many of whom played together last season, can’t wait to get back into it, and have been training hard at preseason training. Brad and Jamie have been working on drills with them all, and we have seen some amazing skills emerge already!

For the first time ever, we are excited to announce that we will be fielding an under 12s girls team!!! This is very exciting for us, as these girls have been watching our senior women’s team and looking up to some great role models there. This will be a merged team with Boronia in order to get a team up, and we will be known as the Redback Hawks. Go Girls!!

Our under 15s team is almost full and Adam has been pushing hard for registrations which has really paid off with such a full team. They have been working really hard at preseason training and a practise match - which was a lot of fun.

The under 17s team were so full that we have had to turn players away! We have been a very sought after club for this age group, and I think we can expect great results from this playing group this season!!!

If anyone is still keen to register for any of the above teams, please follow the below link to PlayHQ to register:

Auskick is due to start on the Friday the 26th of April, and we expect to have similar numbers to last year registered. We had many of our current registered Auskick players, playing in halftime matches at the AFL in the first 3 rounds. It was a very exciting time for these young football stars!!!

Round 1 for juniors starts on the 7th of April. We wish all our teams luck for round 1 and for all of the 2024 season.

Go Redbacks!

Thanks
Sarah Dalton
