SENIOR MEN
We headed out to Templestowe to start our season off.

We were looking to start well and bring our pressure to the contest and to get our game style going.

The first quarter was very even as we tried to shake off some early nerves. Which showed with our ball handling during the quarter.

The second quarter we started to get our game going. We were able to apply good pressure around the contest and force turnovers which allowed us to get some good entries into our forward 50. We went into half time 16pts up.

We started the second half well kicking the first couple to get out to a nice lead. As the quarter went we started to make some fundamental mistakes which gave Templestowe a chance going into the last quarter.

The last quarter we showed some real character as we continued to keep applying our pressure and working really hard in and around the contest. Our leaders stood up when we were challenged and we were able to win the game by 15pts.

Go Redbacks!

RESERVE MEN
After a good preseason and a new look team we went into round 1 in good shape. After just missing finals last year it was important to get off to a good start. We headed to Templestowe to take on last year’s runners up in what was going to be a good test.

We welcomed five new players to the team in Jayger Hanlon- Davis, Daniel Yon, Dylan Archer, Tom Falzon and Jack Williams all in for their first game in the redbacks jumper.

We went into the game knowing we needed to get off to a good start and if we played our way there was a real belief we could get the job done. We started well with our tackle pressure not allowing Templestowe to play there game, which allowed us to force them to turn it over and keep it lock in our front half for most of the first quarter. Although we didn’t make the most of our opportunities kicking 1.5 for quarter, we were able to keep Templestowe Goal less for the quarter going into the first change with a 10-point lead.
The second quarter was for us about keeping the pressure on Templestowe and maintain our lead which we did. Kicking 3 goals to their 2 extending our lead and going into the main break with a 17-point lead.

The challenge for us in the second half was not to drop off on our pressure around the ground and run the game out. With a very even contest in the second half, the promising sign for us every time Templestowe came at us we were able to respond and maintain our 2-3 goal lead for most of the 3rd & 4th quarters before a late scare in the final few minutes allowing Templestowe 2 late goals bringing the margin back to 4 points, despite our backline being under pressure in the dying minutes we were able to hold and get the much deserved win by 4-points.

Next week we head back to Jubilee to try and go 2-0 against last years premiers in East Burwood.

Best players : Shaun Lucas, Mitch Annett, Lachie Stewart, Jacob Broad and Noah Adkins.
