End of Season Update

End of Season Update

Unfortunately on the weekend, our 2022 season came to an end. We all love footy, but there has to be a runner up, and this year it was us.

To make the Grand Final this season was an enormous effort from our Senior Mens team. We were given no chance at the beginning of the year of being a contender. Within the four walls of our footy club we know the drive, passion and commitment that takes place on and off the field. Our coaches and playing groups; seniors, reserves, under 19s, womens, netball and juniors all gave their all this season and we’ll be back bigger and better next year. They all demonstrate incredible teamwork and perseverance each game.

To the partners, parents and families of all our players, thank you for the commitment and unwavering support. We love how much support our sides receive, after a win and after a loss. To our committee, volunteers and supporters who are the drive behind everything that takes place, an enormous thank you. Our club is held together by loyal volunteers, the best in the business! To our sponsors, thank you for continuing to back us and helping us ensure we grow our club for years to come. To all our coaches and players; you set the culture of our club and make everyone proud with the inclusivity, passion and energy you bring at all times!

While the result on Sunday was hard to swallow, the year was well and truly a success. For the sixth straight year our senior men’s team qualified for finals – an incredible result! It was also the fifth straight year that we grew in the number of teams that we fielded at the club, a clear show that we are building, and our journey is far from done.

I would like to thank everyone who came to support us on Sunday, whether it was your first game for the year, or you are a club stalwart, we appreciate your support greatly! I especially want to thank all our juniors’ families who came to the game, to have so many juniors there is a clear sign of how strong we are growing.

We had some fantastic players this year and that was acknowledged this week when the EFNL teams of the year were announced. The following players were included as members of the mens and womens teams of the year:
  • Brett Rowe (coach)
  • Sam Wadley
  • Mitch Jackson
  • Tim Jones
  • Jack Blyth
  • Zoe Cant
  • Georgia Fairbairn
Zoe Cant, Mitch Jackson and Sam Wadley have also all been invited to the league best and fairest on Wednesday September 14th. All three have finished in the top five for league voting – an incredible achievement and we wish them the best!

In coming weeks we will be putting the call out for volunteers and committee members for 2023. If you are able to help, please put your hand up.

Our journey isn’t over, and we are still building. We will be back bigger and better in 2023!
