Grand Final Edition of The Web Newsletter

Grand Final Edition of The Web Newsletter

After a resounding 51 preliminary final win, our seniors take on South Belgrave on Sunday in the Grand Final. After having the last two seasons taken away from us, to be playing in this years Grand Final is special. Thank you to everyone in the football department for their work this year and years gone by, it has taken a lot to get us here. There’s just one more win to go now.

Congratulations to club captain Nathan Cairns who played his 100th game on the weekend, kicking five goals in the process. The win was a fantastic team effort with so many contributors, including 11 different goal kickers. With star forward Mitch Brereton still to come back into the team, expect a Grand Final for the ages on Sunday. If omens are anything to go by, Mitcham is where the club won it’s 2005 Premiership.

The game will be at Walker Park, Mitcham at 2:15pm. We are asking all our supporters to not just wear their club gear, but to make signs, pom poms and anything else to show the players that they have an army of supporters behind them on game day. We need to be loud and we need to show how much support the team has on the day to help them get over the line. As it says in our song, we need everyone on Grand Final day to ‘give us a roar’.

The clubrooms will be open after the game on Sunday and we encourage all our supporters to come back to celebrate the season – no matter the result.

On the weekend we hosted the division 3 Grand Finals at Jubilee. It was a massive day with a crowd of around 5000 there. Our volunteers were incredible and ensured that the day ran smoothly. Thank you to everyone who put their hand up to help on the day and in the finals leading up to the Grand Final. We are very grateful to have such dedicated volunteers. Thanks to Rick George, Mat Eccles and Dwyane Laing for their work to organise the finals series.

This Thursday night will be our final team selection and dinner for the season. Rick and Kim will be cooking chicken schnitzel rolls and lamb wraps. So come down at 7pm to enjoy a meal at the club and hear the final team selection for 2022. Merchandise will also be available for purchase so that you can deck yourself out in new club gear for the big game!

On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all our volunteers for the effort that they have put in this year. The last few years have not been easy on volunteers, so to have so many volunteers come back and step up in 2022 is something that we are so appreciative of. Our club is a community and we need everyone to chip in – so thank you to everyone who does!

Thank you to all our great sponsors too who have continued to back us and help us get to where we are. Without their support we could not continue, so thank you so much! Make sure that you support our great sponsors.

Tickets for our Cameron Parker Best & Fairest presentation night are on sale and there are less than 50 tickets left available. We will be conducting the vote count for our under 19s, netball teams, reserves, senior women and senior men. We will also be awarding the Jim Cairns best club person award and inducting two new life members. The night will be on Thursday September 22nd (the day before the AFL Grand Final public holiday), so make sure you are there to celebrate the season. Tickets can be purchased using this link

Finally, to Rowey and the playing group, we wish you the best and congratulate you on a fantastic season so far! To have been written off at the start of the season to now battling it out for a Premiership is a testament to the resilience of this playing group. They all give 100% each and every week, and we know that they will again on Sunday! The entire club is proud of you and right behind you.

Go Redbacks!
