SENIOR MEN

Always a good contest and tough challenge when we play Boronia at Boronia.

We went into the game with a plan to upset the way they play.

We started well as we brought great effort and intensity around the contest. Our ball movement was good when we got out into space. We were able to get the footy inside 50 often. We just couldn’t put scoreboard pressure on as we kicked 5 points. Boronia were making the most of their opportunities going into quarter time 15pts up.

The second quarter was a real tight tussle as both defences held firm. Our young back six were doing a great job. Rebounding out of their Forward line. We kept Boronia to 1 point for the quarter. We kicked the only goal right on half time. This gave us great belief. We were 8points down.

After halftime, We started to get reward on the scoreboard as we continued to apply good pressure and our willingness to do the 1%’s was proving telling. We kicked 4 goals 2, to go 3 points up at 3 quarter time.

The last quarter turned out to be a real tight contest. As we continued to apply great pressure and execute the plan we had put in place. We managed to keep the footy in our forward 50 with repeat stoppages looking for an opportunity to kick the winner. With 40 seconds left we were able to do that as Brez swooped onto a loose handball to snap the winner and win by 1 point.

This win showed great character and should give our young group great belief.

We head back to Jubilee to face East Burwood.

Go Redbacks!!

NETBALL

This week the Red team played against Norwood who sit 5th on the ladder currently. The girls tried really hard through the entire game but unfortunately couldn’t get enough goals to get the win. They still got plenty of goals through the game with 3 top scorers in Amali North with 8 goals and sisters Kiara and Indi Jackson with 6 goals a piece. The girls take on the Waverley blues in round 8 this coming Friday, hoping they come out stronger than past weeks and take the win.

A tough week for the White team as they played a tough team in Waverley blues. It was a slow start by the girls with the quarter time score 5-9. They continued to push through the entire game and never gave up. The 3 quarter time break was 19-21 and they were down by 3. During the 4th quarter the girls were very fatigued and down by 4 in the last 4 mins. The girls ended up turning the score around and winning by 3 goals. The defending players, Sophie Adamson, Elley King and Hannah Varnam had multiple intercepts in those last few minutes that turned the game around. Libby Adamson and Amy Posetti brought the ball down calmly to the goalers to seal the win. The girls are very excited to go for there 3rd win in a row this week against Bayswater.

The Black team unfortunately struggled a lot this week as they had many players out and had to find 2 fill ins very late in the week. They started off strong with only being down by one at the quart time break. Kilsyth got ahead in the second quarter only by 7 at half time. The girls were fatigued in the last half as there was no bench to rest. They didn’t give up at all, a lot of the girls played in positions they don’t usually play and tried their very best. The black team will come firing next week against Heathmont and hopefully get another win on the board.

Go Redbacks!!

REDBACKS AUSKICK

What an amazing start to the Ringwood Auskick Season with so many superstars in the making!
Our little ones have endured through all types of weather but are still very excited to get down every Friday night and show off their footy skills.

Our first four sessions have included 'bring a friend' week, which saw Jubilee Park flooded with kids, sharing a kick with their best mate. We celebrated Mothers Day with some Kids vs Mums games and social night in the club rooms after with our Junior families. Supported by donations from Heathmont Flowers our Mums each took home some lovely blooms. The following weeks have seen our Auskickers take on marking and kicking skills. Their footspeed increases each week as they try to catch Will and Paddy from our U16s team.

A huge thank you to our senior men and women who come down each week and join in the fun!

Go Redbacks!

Thanks, MEG
