Welcome to this edition of The Web!

Senior Men

Our challenge for our game against Boronia was to try and put a four quarter performance together.

We started well with good pressure around the contest and our tackle pressure was at a high level.

This was allowing us to get our game going by causing Boronia to turn the ball over. We then were able to get good entries into our forward half. We went to the first break seven points up.

The second quarter was fantastic as we continued to apply our pressure at the contest. We were winning the contested ball and our running game was great as we linked up and gave our forwards good looks. We kicked five to go 33 points up at halftime.

In the third quarter we were still playing at a high level, unfortunately we made a couple of basic errors which allowed Boronia to kick three and bring the margin back to 17 points.

Boronia kicked the first of the last quarter to tighten things up. To the boys credit they turned the heat up as we lifted our tackle pressure and pressure around the contest as we kicked the last five goals to run out winners by 43 points.

The pleasing part of the win was we played a good consistent four quarter game for the first time this year.

Next we face Sth Belgrave which we as a team are really looking forward to.

Under 19's

This week we travelled up the mountain to take on second placed South Belgrave on their home ground, and after a disappointing loss last week against ladder leaders The Basin we were out to make sure we put in a solid four quarter effort.

Our focus was to start well and put the pressure on South Belgrave from the first bounce. We started well with most of the play in our front half early allowing us to kick the first two goals of the game before a late goal to South Belgrave gave us a six point lead going into the first break.

The second quarter was an even contest with no team really able to kick away. The pleasing part for us was we were able to still win the quarter to maintain our lead going into half time with a seven point advantage.

With a great first half we knew that if we maintained our pressure and our work rate we would give ourselves every chance. South Belgrave came out well and put a lot of pressure on us, however every time they came at us we were able to steady and increase our lead going into the final change with a ten point lead.

The last quarter was about keeping our composure and our work rate, we knew they weren’t going to make it easy. Unfortunately It came down to the last kick of the day and after leading all day holding on to a one point lead with 25 seconds to go, South Belgrave managed to kick a late goal and win the game by 5 points.

I couldn’t of been any more prouder of the effort all the guys put in. As heart breaking as it was to lose, we will take a lot out of it. We now know that if we bring what we brought today we can match it against the top teams.
