Welcome to this weeks addition of the Web!

This weekend is an exciting time for the club, our seniors take on traditional rivals Heathmont for the Parker Family Cup in a night game on Friday as they look to start the season 3-0. While our under 19s and reserves take on Heathmont on Saturday. The division one senior women’s season will start this weekend, but our women’s team have a bye to start the year. After a dominant 2021 that resulted in the premiership, our women’s team now move up to division one as they again seek a successful year. Their first home game will be against Rowville at home on Saturday 30 April.  Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who helped out at our first home game, the support of our volunteers is incredible. That being said, we need more support so that the same people aren’t being stretched each week. If you are able to lend a hand on game day, please contact myself or head to the bar or tent on a Saturday. Whether you are able to help for the whole day or for an hour, any help goes a long way to make the day easier on everyone. So if you have free time on game, please let us know and give a hand. We will have a merchandise and membership stall set up in the social rooms for our next home game on 30 April, so if you need any club gear for the season, make sure you head upstairs. Thanks to Rick George for organising the band for after our first home game, it was great to have the rooms busy after the game. Our rooms will be open for awards after our home games so please hang around. The bar will remain open after the game. Our juniors kicked off their season last weekend with our under 13s going down by less than a goal after being promoted to B division and our under 12s started the season with an 88 point win. A fantastic start for our competitive teams! We also had other junior teams play on the day but there is no scoring for the lower age groups. Auskick will also begin next Friday night. The growth of the junior club continues each year and we are expecting another big year with our auskick program and junior teams. Growing the juniors remains a key focus for the club.Thank you to long time supporter and sponsor Terry ‘Duck’ Ducatt who has been named our number one ticket holder in 2022. Duck has sponsored the club for over 25 years and has been a key supporter of our netball teams. Our seniors will be wearing a special ANZAC jersey for the game against Heathmont on Friday. This jersey has been developed in conjunction with the Ringwood RSL and we thank them for their support. The RSL will be holding a dawn service at the Ringwood clocktower at 6am on Monday 25 April. Please head down in your club gear and support the RSL. ANZAC badges can be purchased from the club bar with all proceeds going to the RSLs legacy appeal. Friday - H.E. Senior Men

Our first home game for the year in front of our new club rooms. The first qtr was a scrappy affair as both teams tried to gain the ascendancy in the contest. When we were able to win the contest and get some flow in our ball movement we were able to give our forwards are good look at put Mulgrave’s defence under pressure. We went to the first break 9 pts up. In the second quarter Mulgrave really lifted their work rate around the ground  and their pressure at the contest. This resulted in us having to lift our work rate and pressure which we weren’t able to do. Which was disappointing. We went to half time 2 points up. The third quarter was another scrappy affair as both defences held firm and made scoring hard to come by. Once again Mulgrave’s pressure around the contest was telling as they continued to win in tight. Two points separated us at three quarter time. In the last quarter. We were able to put Mulgrave’s defence under pressure as we continued to work hard to lock it in our forward half. We just couldn’t put the scoreboard pressure on and this allowed Mulgrave to stay in the game. The end result was a tight 10point win. This game was not one of our better ones, but to walk away with the four points while not at our best is always pleasing.Go Redbacks!!Brett RoweSenior Coach

Reserves

Leading into the Mulgrave game we knew we were going to have a tough game on our hands with only being able to name 16 players on Thursday night, however come Saturday we had a full team and we asked the team to “expect the unexpected” And sure enough, with a great start from all the fellas we were right in the game at the first two breaks, coming out after half time with some belief and some great individual efforts, the boys put it all on the field. Sadly come the last quarter it became obvious we had run out of legs and unfortunately as we had no bench to rotate anymore,  Mulgrave kicked away to have a 6 goal win over us in the end.  All in all it was a great effort from our fellas and again with some more training and some returning numbers after Easter, the future will be much better and something to look forward to.Go Redbacks!!

Under 19's

Round 1It was finally good to back after another interrupted season in 2021. After another good off season, we recruited well and added 8 new players. Welcome to the club!

Tom Murfett, Lachie Stewart, Noah Adkins, Jacob and Jeremy Broad all from North Ringwood. Jesse McCarthy from Doncaster and Willis Stamation and Jack Sargeant from East Ringwood.

Our first-round game against The Basin was our first real hit out together as a group, although we didn’t get the start we were looking for we took a lot of positives out of the game.Best Players: J McCarthy, E Rorke, J Pritchard, J Sanders, J Stone

Round 2

Our second game saw us back at home against Mulgrave. We started well kicking into a slight breeze and our ball movement was excellent which gave us good looks going forward, kicking the first two of the game and into quarter time with a 5-point lead.

The second quarter Mulgrave had most of the play and with the use of the wind our back six worked well only allowing three goals for the quarter. We had plenty of opportunities into the wind but just couldn’t quite put it on the scoreboard and went into half time down by 9 points. Third quarter was the difference and although we had the wind we didn’t make the most of our opportunities whilst in the final quarter Mulgrave did, eventually running out 29 point winners.

Best Players : T Murfett, L Stewart, Jacob Broad, J Sanders, C George.
